THE PROTEVANGELIUM!

IOPNA’s series on the CONSTELLATIONS continues with our 8th conversation:

We’ve just looked at the ‘Mazzaroth’ and now another weird name!...this ‘Protevanga…thingamy – what’s that all about?
The first Good News!...you know….the prototype of evangelism.  Protos is Greek for ‘first’ and evangelium is Latin for ‘evangel’: the good news.
When do you think the Good News of a Redeemer for mankind was first announced?

I would have thought somewhere in the Psalms or Prophets of the Bible.
How about immediately after the Fall by Adam and Eve in Genesis 3?
Speaking to the serpent in verse 15, God said:

“…I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”

So that’s the first mention of the Gospel?...the Protevangelium?...way back in the beginning?

Way back in the beginning and notice it’s the woman’s seed – in the singular – not the man’s.

…inferring the virgin birth!
So God had His plan all ready!

The apostle Paul tells us in Galatians chapter 4, verse 4: “But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman…” and John tells us why: “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” (1 John 3:8)
Wasn’t there a prophecy about a virgin giving birth?

Sure! Isaiah 7 verse 14 quoted in Matthew 1 verse 23…

“…a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”

By the way the Latin Vulgate Bible uses the word virgo for ‘virgin’ in this verse and this is supported of course by Luke 1, verses 26 to 38.
So let’s see if we can find a match between the Mazzaroth and the story of redemption in the Bible.
Perhaps the Mazzaroth actually begins at Virgo - not Aries.
Maybe! Unfortunately much perversion has changed the naming of the stars and the meaning of the constellations…

…so our only safe option is to examine them in turn and see if there is any correlation with the story of redemption in the Bible.
As for the connection between the Mazzaroth and Israel we’re going to have to be careful not to be categorical about it and the correlation may not be one-to-one….

….yes, especially if there isn’t the authority of the Scriptures to back it up.
All the same, Jacob’s family knew what their names meant and don’t forget that over 20 years elapsed after Joseph’s brothers sold him as a slave before they met him again in Egypt as Prime Minister. During those 20 years they were reminded thousands of times of Joseph’s dreams by binding sheaves in the field, looking at the stars in the night-sky and whenever they slaughtered livestock for meat.

So they were forced to identify with the stars whether they liked it or not, while never telling their dad what they’d done to their little brother!
Yes and remember what we found in Romans 10?...Israel knew the gospel in advance!
So let’s take a break, then look at each of the 12 constellations beginning with the first 4: Virgo, Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius.
