ISRAEL IN THE STARS

This is IOPNA’s 7th conversation in our CONSTELLATION series:

Israel in the stars??  Where’s the connection?
In Genesis 37 we find the 11th son, Joseph, had two dreams and one of them is in verse 9: “…the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.”

But isn’t that just a dream that became reality when Joseph’s brothers finally had to bow down to him as Egypt’s Prime Minister?
More than that - Israel is finally portrayed in Revelation chapter 12 as:
“…a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars.”

I’ve always understood that the woman represented the Church - at least that’s what I’ve heard taught.
You’ll find from our ‘RAPTURE SERIES’ that false teaching comes from the mistaken view that God had finished with Israel by engaging with Gentiles as the Church.
Since when was the Church ‘with child’, then crying out from labour pains before giving birth to a male Child who will rule the nations?

Well, given the context, I guess it doesn’t really make sense.
So are there 12 distinct stars in the Zodiac or Mazzaroth?

Not really. Only 5 of the constellations have bright stars: Spica in Virgo, Antares in Scorpio, Aldebaran in Taurus, Pollux and Castor in Gemini and Regulus in Leo.

So is there any connection between the Mazzaroth constellations and the 12 sons of Israel?
Well, any correlation seems a bit obscure so at this stage let’s just list them alongside the meanings of their names, with what Jacob had to say in Genesis 49, and the blessing of Moses in Deuteronomy 33.

REUBEN means ‘look! a son’.      Unstable as water. Live not die

SIMEON means ‘hearing’.             Cruel and to be scattered. (Moses silent)

LEVI means ‘attached’.                  Also cruel. Proves faithful

JUDAH means ‘praise’.                  Lion’s whelp. Govern with God’s help

DAN means ‘judge’             Biting serpent. Lion’s whelp from Bashan

NAPHTALI means ‘wrestling’        Deer / beautiful words. Blessed

GAD means ‘troop’             Triumphant. Lion dispensing justice

ASHER means ‘happy’                    Rich with bread. Most blessed

ISSACHER means ‘reward’            Strong donkey. Rejoice at home

ZEBULON means ‘dwelling’          By seaside. Rejoice in going out

[DINAH means ‘judgment’            The sister who lost her virginity]

JOSEPH means ‘adding’                 Fruitful, blessed, archer. Bull with horns

BENJAMIN means ‘son of right hand’. Ravenous wolf. Dwell in safety

Okay, we’ll wait and see about that.  So what are the constellations of the Mazzaroth meant to mean and where do we start?
Well, we could start with Aries, as per Astrology but that could be where the perversion started or we could look at inscriptions in Egyptian temples and the Great Sphynx.

Wouldn't it be safer to go by what the Bible teaches?
I agree. So let’s start with the very first mention of the gospel about the Redeemer, our Lord Jesus Christ.
