Are you ready for us to look for a message in the
stars?
Well, I’m not into that horoscope stuff. There's probably
just as much of a message in paint splattered on the ceiling!
Haven't you ever looked up at the night-sky while
lying in your swag beside the campfire and wondered - why stars?
Just imagine the shepherd boy David doing just
that while guarding his dad's sheep and thinking about God telling us that the
lights in the heavens are "for signs and for seasons".
Well I'll admit that his Psalm 19 is pretty
special: "Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words
to the end of the world..." and you tell me that means some sort of
measuring tape for the heavens’ words.
Remember we found that David also told us in
Psalm 8 that the stars were 'ordained', that Moses told the Israelites the
stars were "divided unto all nations under the whole heaven", and that
the apostle Paul held Israel responsible for having heard the gospel proclaimed
world-wide, long before global travel.
Sure, and I was very surprised to find that not
only are constellations found in the Bible but God recognises them in Job 38,
especially Orion and the Pleiades cluster, plus a distinguished group He called
the 'Mazzaroth'.
So how about we take a look at the 12
constellations of the Zodiac and see if they relate in any way to the message
of Redemption in the Bible.
As we do that we could see if the sons of Jacob
would have seen anything in the stars to identify with, as they brooded over
Joseph’s dreams during his 20 year absence. What about the 12 months of the year?
Yes, clearly months were recognised by Noah so
let's also see if God's new calendar for Israel in Exodus 12 relates as well.
On one condition!....that we use the Bible as our
authority and not Man’s legends, myths, superstitions or interpretations.
Agreed, but before we start let me explain why
the constellations of the Zodiac or Mazzaroth
are so special… If we could see through each day's blue sky and look beyond the bright sun we would find the same constellation behind it - at the moment Taurus the bull. As the Earth continues its orbit around the sun during the year, so the sun will appear to move along an ecliptic line in front of the other 11 constellations in turn.
I get it…so the sun spends about a month in front of each constellation
while our moon takes a month to orbit us! This all smacks of mind-boggling
design!
Yes and by the way,
it’s a bit crowded up there at the moment – with Mars, Mercury, Venus and
Jupiter all hiding ‘in Taurus’ using the glare of the sun.
You know…I suspect this is going to be like the
grandest slide show ever - still running after 6000 years! Don’t forget we decided to begin with…..
